Biblical Counseling emphasizes a God-centered approach to solving problems. At its core, biblical counseling must be these three things.
We believe that biblical counseling will be conscientiously and comprehensively Christ-centered. It will make much of who Christ is and what He has done for us. Therefore, the counselee will be shown that resolving their sin-related difficulties will include being redeemed through Christ, receiving God's forgiveness and trusting in Christ alone for the enabling power to replace sinful patterns of life with godly patterns (I Corinthians 10:13; Ephesians 3:20).
We believe that biblical counseling is a ministry of the local church. The local church is God's ordained agency to help His people grow and change into the likeness of Christ. In fact, while church leaders are especially responsible (Hebrews 13:17), God has called ALL believers to counsel one another to some degree (Romans 15:4).
We believe that biblical counseling functions on the presupposition that Scripture is God's inspired, inerrant, and sufficient Word. We view the Bible as the textbook for everything pertaining to life and godliness (II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:3-4).
Therefore, the task of the biblical counselor is not only to show the counselee what the scriptures say, but also help them to apply the scriptures to their problem/s (Col. 3:5-8; Eph. 4:22-32).
